Smart Traffic & Road Safety Summit aspires to identify and analyze Smart Traffic and Road Safety challenges in UAE and the Middle East. The Summit is scheduled to take place in March 2019 in Dubai. Given the tremendous developments in UAE and the Middle East and the expansion of road networks, evolution of road transport and the new policies and strategies to overcome traffic related obstacles, Smart Traffic, Road Safety and Accident Prevention have become more critical than ever.
Smart Traffic & Road Safety Summit provides a foremost platform for knowledge exchange and peer-to-peer engagement, whilst featuring successful case studies, latest innovations and methodologies in smart traffic control systems, highlighting latest trends, vehicle safety research to enhance traffic planning, public safety measures, highlight effective and efficient safety models and best practices that should be implemented on the roads.

Khairil Anwar Abu Kassim is the Secretary General of ASEAN NCAP, one of ten NCAP’s in the world that encourage safer cars development in the market. He is also the former Head of Crash Safety Engineering Unit (CRASE) in MIROS, one of the leaders in vehicle safety area that help researchers & engineers to realize their full potential in the safety system. To date, he has been supervising and developing multiple International and local research and development grants and projects in MIROS with a total worth RM 20 Million.
On February 25th, 2010, MIROS has created the nation history by conducting Passenger Car Outdoor Crash Test, the first in Malaysia and South East ASEAN, this success story spread out to Europe, USA and others ASIAN countries. It was never in their mind, that country like Malaysia able to execute a crash test. Currently, the MIROS PC3 has conducted more than 100 crash tests since May 2012 and it is one of the official crash laboratories for ASEAN NCAP.
Under Khairil’s leadership, ASEAN NCAP mission continually improves towards establishing a reliable independent consumer information for safer cars. More manufacturers have increased their vehicle safety capacity and ability as a result of safety rating and strategies implemented by the team. It is well accepted that to enter the ASEAN market, the minimum required rating is now 4 star which confidently translate to reduction of road fatality. MIROS has recognized his commitment by awarding him the Excellent Service Award in his first full service year in 2009 and Most Impact Researcher Award in 2010. He is also receiving special awards for his dedicated works and commitment throughout his tenure.

Meredydd retired as a UK Chief Constable in October 2011. His national responsibilities included leadership of major public and sporting events, roads policing, firearms, public order, and emergency planning.
Now RSS Executive Chairman, he works internationally as a consultant and lecturer in his specialist policing and security fields, bringing his 32 years of Policing leadership to bear on critical problems in road safety, counter terrorism, and major event command. He also lectures on strategic leadership at the Indian National Police Academy in Hyderabad.
With two friends, Med founded Road Safety Support Ltd in 2007. They now employ specialist lawyers, scientists and technicians, and have an international reputation for road safety strategy and enforcement consultancy. Working worldwide, they have delivered projects for the UN, charities, and national governments. They partner with agencies in every continent to reduce road death.
A keen climber and mountaineer, he has also recently completed a Master’s degree in Leadership Studies at the Charles Sturt University, Australia.

Thomas Edelmann is a graduate of the University of Commerce, Vienna – Austria (major: Transportation Sciences).
After having spent about 25 years in the corporate world mainly working for global blue chips Coca-Cola and MasterCard, he made his passion his career by starting the CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) & Activation platform RoadSafetyUAE at the beginning of 2014.
Thomas is the Founder and Managing Director of RoadSafetyUAE – a holistic platform aimed at increasing the awareness for road safety in the UAE, by leveraging the key stakeholders governmental entities, corporate supporters, the media and the individual traffic participants in the UAE. RoadSafetyUAE was launched at the beginning of 2014 and it enjoys the support of about 30 CSR-Partners and won awards on local, regional and global level!

Prior to joining RoSPA as the Fleet Safety Consultant, John was a Customs and Excise Officer working with the investigative teams, as part of this role he was involved with the gathering of evidence, interviewing of suspects and witnesses and preparing cases for Court. Upon leaving the service he opened and ran a taxi business with a turnover in excess of £1m. Selling the business and looking for a quieter life he became a driving instructor specialising in the Fleet Driver market, developing a national training program for minibus drivers in the charity sector (MiDAS). He holds various licences to deliver behavioural change courses to drivers, has a Nebosh General Certificate, a Road Safety Engineering qualification and is a QSA auditor for RoSPA as well as holding various driver qualifications.

Shailen Bhatt

As its chief executive, Bhatt promotes policies that advance the development and deployment of intelligent transportation technologies throughout the United States. He has testified before Congress about the positive safety impact of intelligent transportation technologies, including connected and automated vehicles.
Bhatt is a leading voice in transportation on technology’s ability to save lives and reduce crashes on U.S. roadways. He speaks extensively about the importance of vehicles to communicate with each other and all roadway users as one of the best ways to improve safety and reduce congestion. He is also passionate about reducing transportation’s carbon footprint and the need to provide seamless mobility and transportation choices to people no matter where they live.
Bhatt was appointed as a transportation leader by three governors. While serving as Executive Director for the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT), the agency launched the Road X program, which is focused on deploying innovative technology solutions such as connected vehicles and teaming with the private sector to shape the future of transportation. Prior to CDOT, Bhatt was Cabinet Secretary for the Delaware Department of Transportation. He was also a presidential appointee at the U.S. Department of Transportation.
Bhatt has served as Chair of the Board of Directors for the National Operations Center of Excellence (NOCoE) and the Executive Committee of the I-95 Corridor Coalition; he was a member of the World Economic Forum’s (WEF) Global Agenda Council on the Future of Automotive and Personal Transport.
Bhatt graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Western Kentucky University. He lives with his wife and two young daughters in Washington, DC.

In her capacity as Director General of IRF Geneva, Susanna Zammataro is responsible for developing and implementing strategic plans for the organization.
As in-house expert on Environment and Climate change, she is also responsible for the overall environmental programmes and activities run by the IRF Geneva. Activities which she started from scratch in 2007 when she joined the IRF. Leading projects in this field currently include the Greenhouse Gas Calculator for road infrastructure (CHANGER), the Green Public Procurement Initiative and Innovative Practices for Greener Roads. She has – in between others - advised the European Commission for the development of GPP criteria for road construction and road markings and ensured the engagement of the industry in this process. Susanna represents IRF in several Technical Committees relating to Sustainability: she’s member of the independent review panel for INVEST (Integrated VicRoads Environmental Sustainability Tool) and member of the UNECE Climate Change Expert Group on Adaptation. She is also the accredited IRF representative for the COP negotiations (Conference of States Parties to UN treaty on Climate Change) and the coordinator of the IRF Group of Experts on Environment & Climate Change.

Graduated in Business Administration with a double Master’s Degree in International Trade Management. Mr. Carlos Martinez is Export Manager in Snoline by Lindsay Transportation Solutions. He has over 10 years sales experience in Asia, America, Europe and Middle East, always within manufacturing and metalworking industries. As Snoline by Lindsay’s Export Manager he is in charge of consolidating the use of Road Safety Systems in EMEA areas, with particular focus on emerging markets where these systems are still not generally used.

Peter Hartzell is the Secretary and Project Manager for the secretariat of ISO/TC 241 – Road traffic safety management systems. He is a Project Manager at SIS, Swedish Standards Institute (a member of ISO, International Organization for Standardization) since 2007 and specializes in the development of management system standards by managing international ISO committees in addition to managing a number of national committees. He manages a collaboration group at SIS, to coordinate national committees working with management system standards. He earned a business degree at Stockholm university. Peter is a member of UNRSC, United Nations Road Safety Collaboration representing ISO/TC 241 with ISO 39001 as part of UNRSC. Peter is also a member of ISO/JTCG, Joint Technical Coordination Group, an international coordination group at ISO for the strategic development of ISO management system standards and ISO directives guiding the development of management system standards. Peter Hartzell has worked internationally with management systems for 25 years.

Responsible for overseeing the implementation of the multimodal of freight master plan and development of governess framework of freight sector for the emirate of Abu Dhabi. Specifically, I have direct responsibilities of managing policy and planning, industry communication and industry management.
And Director of Projects Management, with on‐site management experience, and the ability to vet projects and advise on their development, structure and initiation. Able to analyse, identify key issues/problems and develop solutions, has consistently delivered successful projects to time and budget and achieved regular promotions. Used to building projects from concept and presenting business cases, now handles billion dollar projects, determining their structure and contract strategy. This capability is assisted by good communication skills and the ability to formally present. Being able to develop business relationships has also helped build interfaces with suppliers and organisations, and coordinate different projects to achieve a common purpose.

Kiran K. Kapila, P.E., a Chartered Civil Engineer registered with the American Society of Civil Engineers is a well accomplished person. Apart from leading a renowned infrastructure Consultancy Organization in India, employing over 1,500 professionals, he also Co-Chairs the Infrastructure Committee at the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI). He was a Member of the Board of Directors at FIDIC - a global association of Consulting Engineering Associations, till September 2017.
Mr. Kapila believes that Safety is the hallmark of a sustainable and robust infrastructure - be it road, railways, airports, ports, metros, etc. ICT under Mr. Kapila’s leadership is highly focused on undertaking technical feasibility studies, masterplan for development and redevelopment of railway stations, Surveys, designs and consultancy services for railway infrastructure. A number of projects in India and abroad have been successfully undertaken, a notable ones being the feasibility studies and development of redevelopment of Habibganj, Chandigarh railways stations and technical feasibility studies in Nepal, Mongolia, etc.
Mr. Kapila pursues his conviction through the International Road Federation (IRF) in his capacity as its Chairman. The IRF is a not-for-profit, non-governmental organisation pursuing the objective of ‘’Safe Roads and Safe Road Mobility’’ across the World. His passion is to fulfill the UN Decade of Action which envisages 50% reduction in road fatalities, especially in the developing world of Africa and Asia, amongst others.
Mr. Kapila has authored a number of Papers published in various journals and is recipient of a number of national and international awards. For Mr. Kapila, growth of Consultancy Services in India is a matter of deep commitment. His vision is to put in place a quality based procurement mechanism to ensure that safety is an integral and inbuilt part of any infrastructure.
